Bayelsa speaker impeached, lawmaker takes over


Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Tonye Isenah, has been impeached and replaced with Monday Obolo, a lawmaker representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2 in the state’s Assembly.

According to TVC, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly was on Monday invaded by hoodlums, who shot sporadically all across the premises, following an alleged attempt by a faction of the house to impeach Isenah.

It was noted that Isena had been expected to resign today, 30th Sep. following pressure mounted on him by some Political Party leaders ahead of the November 16 governorship election in the state.

Meanwhile, Tonye Isenah has dismissed the report of his impeachment insisting that he remains the Speaker of the Bayelsa House of Assembly.

The ex speaker told TVC news that he is not aware of any impeachment adding that the House has gone on recess.
