Omo-Agege Unseat Ekweremadu As Deputy Senate President


Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on Tuesday defeated the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu to emerge as the Deputy Senate President of the 9th Assembly.

Senator-elect for Katsina North, Ahmed Baba Kaita had nominated Omo-Agege and was seconded by Senator-elect, Niger North, Abdullahi Aliyu Sabi.

Omo-Agege representing Delta Central Senatorial District polled 68 votes to defeat PDP’s Ekweremadu who scored 39 votes.

Earlier, the APC preferred candidate Ahmed Lawan was elected as the president of the Nigerian Senate after defeating PDP’s adopted candidate Ali Ndume, also of the APC with 79 votes and Ndume polled only 28 votes.
