A 400 level medical student of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, identified as Ikezue Kingsley Nnadi, has been paraded for alleged cultism and illegal possession of firearms.
The medical student was reportedly arrested by the Men of the Security Unit of the University at the students’ hostel, located at Moore Road during routine surveillance of hostels.
Speaking about the case, the Chief Security Officer of the institution (CSO), Jarlath Abang who paraded the suspect said men of the security unit swung into action after receiving intelligence reports about his activities in the school.
“Ikezue who is suspected to be a cult leader had forcefully occupied the Hall Chairman’s room at the hostel and refused to vacate despite several appeals from the security unit.”
He added that: “The suspect was arrested at about 2.am by men of the security unit who were on a normal routine check of hostels. But prior to his arrest, there were sporadic gunshots in the hostel and this is what prompted us to swing into action.’’
A locally made pistol, cartridges, charms, hard drugs, Indian Hemps, Aye Confraternity flag and various identity cards, among others were all recovered from the suspect before handing him over to the police for investigation.
