Ibadan Poly Orders Immediate Suspension Of Students’ Union Activities

The Management of the Polytechnic Ibadan says it has suspended the Students’ Union activities until further notice following the breakdown of peace in the institution.

In a statement dated Thursday, April 4 and signed by the institutions Registrar, Mrs Modupe Fawale, the management also noted that the students are to proceed on Mid-Semester break immediately.

It reads: Poly management closes school for mid-semester break

“The Authority of The Polytechnic Ibadan have closed the institution and the students are to proceed on Mid-Semester break immediately.

“The students are to resume for studies on Wednesday, 10th April, 2019. All students are to vacate the halls of residence immediately.

“The police have been invited to ensure smooth vacation of the students from the institution and prevent breach of peace.

“Parents and guardians are advised to request their wards to return home immediately as the management of the institution will not be responsible for the care of any students during the mid-semester break.”

This is following the series of clashes which follows the ongoing football competition organised by the student leadership of the institution.

According to reports, the Sports Director of the National Association of Polytechnic Engineering Students, Tobi Oyeniyi was stabbed in the head while another student was seriously injured after the Faculty of Engineering Queens lost to the Faculty of Business and Communications Studies Queens on Wednesday.

It was also noted that the police have been invited to ensure smooth vacation of the students from the campus to prevent breach of peace.
