In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Avril talked about the rumour making rounds for about ten years now.

Reacting to the news of her being dead and the Avril that we all know now is a clone, she referred to the rumour as dumb and wondered why people will buy into such news. The singer said she wouldn’t have been looking exactly the same if she was a clone.

In her words:

‘More like that it’s just a dumb internet rumor and [I’m] flabbergasted that people bought into it. Isn’t that so weird? It’s so dumb. And I look the exact same. On one hand, everyone is like, ‘Oh my god, you look the same,’ and on the other hand people are like, ‘Oh my god, she died.’

The news started circulating in 2011 when a Brazilian blog called “Avril Está Morta” meaning “Avril Is Dead” surfaced online.

According to the site, the singer died in 2003 and her look alike, Melissa Vandella took Avril’s space in order to keep the music going.
