It was a sad day in Akure on Wednesday after a tanker carrying fuel exploded at the Shagari Village Junction along the Ilesa/ Owo Federal Highway.
According to reports, about five persons, including a toddler died after the tanker laden with 33,000 litres of fuel fell and started a fire that razed eight vehicles, two buildings and some shops.
It was gathered that the impatient tanker driver while was trying to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle lost control and fell on the vehicle, spilling its content on the road.
The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, who visited the scene described the incident as sad and unfortunate.
Ajayi commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and their properties to the fire incident in the state.
